AWAKENED TO A DREAM

by Katrina Relf

I had been adrift in a dark and empty place,
Unknown to myself for so long.
Lost between silence and tears.
Lost – with no voice to guide me,
Nor the solace of words to save me.
I reached out from my aloneness,
From the abhorrent void of my prison,
And I touched hands –
Touched their softness, their strength –
Touched you.
Your voice was an anchor in the sea of my madness,
Your arms were the shelter in my world apart,
Your touch was my only succour until the storm had passed.
And now I see you –
Your face that shone like a jewel through my imaginings,
Your eyes that steered my course when there was no wind to guide me.
You are the dream that awakened my soul,
The soft light that shines upon me,
Protects me in the darkness of my world.
You are the promise of healing and peace,
Of quiet moments shared between laughter and tears.
I see you and I love you,
Yet your name is lost within the mists of perturbation.
Words and memories still elude me,
Still slip through my fingers.
But no matter now – for I am blessed.
I have awakened to a dream –
And the dream is you.

  1. Unknown to myself for so long … that’s an amazing, thought- and feeling- provoking line, Katrina.
And now I see you … I find this line resonates with me as well.
Thank you for this shadowed and brilliantly lit piece.
