 Lost Penny day

PENNY FINDS A HOME

by Teresa Miller

Traffic sounds are loud. Sirens wailing, horns tooting, engines rumbling. The pulse of the city could be felt through the sidewalk. Vibrations ebb and flow. The rhythm of hundreds of footsteps. A slideshow of shoes. The sky could be seen between the flow of bodies. A bright day with only a few clouds.

A beam of sunlight catches the copper metal and makes it shine bright. A footstep slows and stops. A hand extends down and fingers curl around to pick up the 2025 penny. The penny slides into a pocket to join its kin.

You know…pennies make dollars.

  1. Oooh, Teresa! How sneaky that we have to guess who might have saved that 2025 penny — 39 years after our beloved show first aired. How wonderful to think that the Tunnel community still exists in our day, and that our beloved couple might still be somewhere, renewing our belief in Love and Trust and Community.

    Thank you so much!

    HUGS,

  2. Penny is indeed lucky if, as I imagine it, a Tunnel child found it and picked it up. What will they save their pennies for? Another story for you to write, Teresa! :-D

  3. Teresa, as you know, I think this is such a wonderful way to interpret the Lost Penny Day holiday and writing it from the penny’s point of view is so intriguing and original. I’m so glad you wrote it and shared it with us!

  4. I really like this vivid description of a holiday I hadn’t heard of before. I’m intrigued and would love to know what lies behind these words and what kind of story will unfold from this.
