Secrets of Central Park

coming home to a place
I’ve never been before

by Mark Hanawalt

Inspired by the Ramble

Vincent cannot survive in a top-side world
Where loneliness, fear, & ego thrive.
Vincent is an extreme of different-ness
That produces extreme rejection & pain.
Vincent can only survive in the womb of Earth Mother
Where acceptance, generosity, & love thrive;
Where all arises from the safety of womb.

Tunnels are always hidden & secret places
That lead from someplace to someplace else.
Seeking depth can happen in the mind, heart, or ground,
Vincent has found depth in all three.
Catherine has found depth in all three.
Catherine moves from her skyline place
To this other place in another world.

Here, dwellers hide from places of pain
To a place of warmth, safety, & trust.
Such a place must be kept secret for all.
Here, dwellers try to take care of each other
While trying to take care of themselves,
Such a place warms the heart & feeds the soul,
Such a place must be kept alive for all.

I can join Vincent in my dreams,
On & under the natural ground, in the sun, anyplace I like.
I can escape into realms of imagination
Just like Koslow can; just like Vincent can.
Such places cannot be had here-&-now,
But 19th century Romantics escaped a dirty world
To one in nature, in their poetry, in their yearnings.
