A Kingdom Under the Sea
While exploring one of the deepest tunnels, one with many twists and turns, Mouse discovers a deep pool of water that he is certain has never before been seen. Happily, he claims it as his own and takes to lying in solitude by the water’s edge, thinking about his next project or two or three. He is by this pool when one day he sees what he thinks is a giant fish tail flicking in and out of the surface. His Mouse curiosity leads him to get closer to the edge.
Quickly, an odd force pulls at him, sucking him into the water, carrying him down, under, and through one tunnel, then another, and another. He lets the force take him where it will. The force finally washes him up on the shore of an expansive open chamber. Catching his breath, he turns his head. He gasps. Beside him lies what appears to be a mermaid. Her face is turned toward the ground. Thick, long turquoise hair seems to float around her shoulders. Her turquoise body is tipped with a gossamer turquoise tail that is barely moving.
What is this place, Mouse wonders? Is this an entryway into another world – an undersea world beneath the city of New York? Who is this mermaid? Did she bring him here? There are so many questions to excite him. Yet there is another important question – How will he return home?
