EVEN BEFORE THE DAYS
OF THE INTERNET …
CABB (Classic Alliance of Beauty and the Beast) has always been a vibrant, creative fandom group, dedicated to keeping the dream alive by embracing the philosophy of the tunnel community and celebrating the love and light embodied by Vincent and Catherine. CABB has existed and thrived for over thirty years, but how did it all begin? What happened in the early, pre-internet years? How has it evolved into CABB – New Chambers in 2023? And where will we go from here?
We feel it is important to preserve the history of fandom, to look back and celebrate our roots as we look ahead with unquenchable enthusiasm to what is still to be. In this section of CABB – New Chambers, the latest incarnation of CABB, we will feature an ongoing look at this group’s amazing history. You’ll learn about how and why it all started, our many charity projects and contributions, our participation at in-person cons, the zines and newsletters we published, and much more.
We also will reprint stories and poems, articles (reviews, humor, letters), con reports, art and cartoons, and other features that only appeared in limited print editions “back in the day”. In this way, we will help preserve these wonderful moments from fandom, while making them available for the enjoyment of those who have never seen them.
We’ll tell you about spending time with Ron Perlman in a NYC theatre lobby as he helped us prepare items for a CABB auction. We’ll show you doodles drawn by many BatB creators such as Joseph Campanella, Victor Lobl, Beah Richards, Edward Albert, and Margaret Bessera (including the famous Vincent braid) that were auctioned in support of The Pediatric AIDS Foundation. And we’ll celebrate the accomplishments and adventures of many friends within our fandom who brought CABB to life and have kept it flourishing to this day.
The first chapter of our saga will be shared soon, so keep watching this space on CABB – New Chambers for the continuing story of CABB!
